SOCIAL PEDAGOGY

Social pedagogy
Social pedagogy is an academic branch, dealing with assessment of environmental conditions of development of individuals, groups and societies, as well as organization of institutional forms of care and support. It is focused on processes and activities aiming at social transformation, democracy building, development of human resources and social capital.
It is a subbranch of pedagogy strongly linked to European tradition and contemporary social, cultural and educational search. It was, in particular, German experience, that gave rise to this discipline. Nowadays it has become an important quickly developing pedagogical trend in most European countries. Its founders emphasized the significance of pedagogy's openness to the problems of other nations and cultures, as well as enhancing agreement and cooperation in Europe (Helena Radlińska). They participated actively in international educational and cultural organizations, e.g. UNESCO (Ryszard Wroczyński).
Nowadays social pedagogy is an important factor of European integration process. It puts stress both on intercultural education and social costs stemming from political and economic transformation, which affects various social groups. Social pedagogy cooperates and mutually complements with other domains in this field, especially with social work, social politics, culture anthropology, social economy and law.
